The first Eurostar train from London arrived in Paris on Friday as the new Brexit customs regulations were set to come into force on January 1. "They just checked our COVID test. I am a student here in France so they checked I was actually a student, but it was pretty smooth, pretty good," said one traveller. Several customs officers, who did not seem to carry strict checks could be seen at the station, with the mission to provide information and educate passengers on the new regulations. "They will have the obligation to fill in declaration forms for a certain number of sensitive products. And of course, and this is the second part, they must not import any prohibited or dangerous articles that are not allowed by the regulations," said Jean-Roald l'Hermitte, Director of Customs for the Paris region. The new Brexit regulations officially came into force at midnight on Friday after the end of an 11-month transition period. *SOUNDBITE* SOT, Marie, French citizen (French): "For us, it's easy because we are French we can come easily. But to return, you need the Settled status to re-enter in the UK. But otherwise, to come here was easy with the French passport."
